Parkside Update – July 2009

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dear all

Thank you all for your continued support for the proposals for the Parkside Strategic Rail Freight Interchange.

I know that some of you have been enquiring about the next steps for the proposals, and I wanted to write to update you that the planning application is due to be considered by St Helens and Warrington Councils in the near future.

We were delighted to hear that St Helens Council’s Executive has approved the Core Strategy Publication Draft of the Local Development Framework, which will guide St Helens in its local development making decisions until 2025. Parkside is now allocated in the Core Strategy Publication Draft for the development of a rail freight interchange. The support of the Council in its approval of the Core Strategy is an important step on the route to approval for Parkside.

I was recently briefed by representatives of ProLogis on the progress of the proposals and was pleased to hear that ProLogis remains committed to pursuing the application for Parkside. As you will appreciate, the timing remains under review, but it is ProLogis’ intention to bring this scheme forward when market conditions are favourable.

Parkside remains important to ProLogis due to its strategic location, and is a key part of its strategy for major Strategic Rail Freight Interchanges.

The key reason for ProLogis commitment is that Parkside’s attributes as a site for an SRFI are unrivalled. Not only is it situated between Liverpool and Manchester, at the crossroads of two main train lines and two motorways, it is located in a region where existing rail freight interchange facilities cannot cope with growing demand. By meeting this demand, the Parkside proposals will have a major impact on the economy in the region, helping the North West to compete for rail freight business, and creating more prosperity and jobs.

Parkside therefore continues to represent a unique opportunity to provide a vital boost to both the local economy and the regional economy of the North West, creating jobs across a range of employment types, and bringing investment to the region to benefit of future generations.

Given these important benefits, I wanted to take this opportunity to ask you to again lend your support to the campaign and write to St Helens and Warrington Councils to demonstrate your support for Parkside.

If you have any questions, would like further information about the proposals, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you think there are other organisations or individuals who would be interested in joining the coalition to support Parkside please do let us know.

Yours faithfully,

John Evans

Chair of the Parkside Alliance

I've just received a letter from St Helens Council advising that yet more planning procedures are to be carried out. How much more time do they need for this procedure ? It just proves how 19th century these masters of ours are. Had it been the responsibility of Warrington Borough Council the site would now be booming. It makes you wonder just what these councillors are doing for their handsome expenses.
