Hi,

I'm new to the forum.

I wanted to let people know that the railway bridge over by the Sunbeam ( I believe that's the pub) has been closed and padlocked. It's going to be torn down. I have serious objections to this - the new bridge takes longer to cross - this can be problematic for both the elderly, disabled as well as people with prams, it's impossible to see if anyone if anyone is on the new bridge - this can be particularly dangerous for anyone arriving on the later trains -particularly women, but anyone that uses the new bridge could be affected - what has been created is an opportunistic spot for muggings, rape and assault.

There is also the question as this bridge is quite old there is the possibility that it should be protected - does anyone know the history of it? How long has it been there? Is it possible it is listed or should be? As the Earlestown station is suppose to be one of the oldest (along with Newton) in this area - is possible the bridge is just as old - do we really want another part of the history destroyed?

And then there is the aesthetics of it...green, purple and yellow - these are the colours of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I've only lived here in Newton for 7 years but never have I ever seen parade floats on either the High St or on Market St. Is there a part of Newton history that I don't know about and isn't listed on wikipedia?

People here in Newton/Earlestown saved the town hall...can't we save this bridge as well?

I believe the destruction of it is immenent

having lived at the side of that bridge for 18 years the whole effing lot want tearing down, its just as quick to walk round, i have seen people struggle with prams , bikes et al to get over that bridge, thats apart from dickheads back and to the the dump comically called the town centre at all times of day and night with scant regard for residents

well the new bridge is actually worse and considering it hasn't been there that long there's already graffiti on it.

I have to use the bridge on a daily basis as I have to take the train to Chester - it is illegal to cross across the tracks. The train to Chester is on platform 5 - which empties out near the Sunbeam and the return is platform 4.

It is also not a quick walk around it takes 15 minutes to reach the town centre using the bridge and 25+ depending on traffic to walk around - this is of course completely dependent on "*Richards Head*" drivers who have little or no regard for pedestrians. I could say the same about some of the drivers that speed out of the cul-de-sac in a rush to que at Wargrave and almost hitting pedestrians that had the right away.

If you take such umbrage to living behind a train station perhaps that should have been a concern before moving in

the train station and the trains were not a problem it was the dickheads that used it at 5 in a morning coming from the night club( and i use the term lightly). and when we bought that house, there was no club, and pubs shut at 10:30 pm and eleven at weekends, and were run by responsible landlords, and if you have ever had to put up with the low lifes at that time of a morning you would understand
